More Flowers

I painted this on Strathmore Cold-Press 140lb paper. I felt like painting a small grouping of flowers surrounded by a haze of purple and green. This came out a little pale, lighter in effect than I intended, but I feel that I could build off of the idea in the future. This painting is only 6x9", and I'm dying to try something larger.

Mountain Town

Small watercolor scanned from my sketchbook. I tried painting the sunset as naturally as I could, but I really should have stopped while I was ahead... At some point, the sky had a nice orange glow, but I threw in too much purple. Also, there's a patch in the trees that got muddied when I added a dark green to the wash. Shame.

Poppies

Poppies 6" x 9" painted on Strathmore CP paper.

Edit: I was inspired by Monet's Poppy fields to do something with a bold red against a cool green. I just recently learned a good way to draw poppies realistically by breaking them down into circles and cones so that they resemble little cups.
